Local hospitality owners to take meal delivery giants on at their own game

A Wodonga hospitality operator has started up a new delivery service to keep things local, rather than paying high fees to online meal delivery giants.

Delivlocal was started by High Street takeaway shop owner Colin Robinson in response to the surge in the need for delivery services during the pandemic.

"We came across a lot of dissatisfied customers and restaurant owners over the period and they weren't happy with the delivery services, particular the major ones," he said.

"So, we worked out a formula to make it work.

"So not only does the restaurant owner make a hell of a lot more money, but also the customer gets a cheaper price."

Delivlocal drivers will be employed directly by the company rather than as contractors, with full time and casual positions to be available.

Pay rates and conditions will be in line with the Road Transport Award.

"It's actually quite enlightening to go through the process, because when we looked at this we wanted to look at the whole package," Mr Robinson said.

"The whole package meaning the actual delivery service … and then making sure the delivery drivers are looked after so they're in a better situation than they were with the other companies.

"On top of that, having all customers getting best benefit from delivery service while looking after local community."
