Celebrity chef Neil Perry joins the rush to Double Bay

Chef and restaurateur Neil Perry has sold his Martin Place office and is moving all his operations to Double Bay.

Perry and his business partner sold their 750 square metre suite fronting 84 Pitt St for $1.2 million at an auction on 1 March, which was originally purchased for $730,000 in 2017.

“I am moving all my operations to Double Bay,” Perry told The Australian. “The suite housed all the guys who look after my restaurant Margaret there.

“Why Double Bay? Because I have a really successful business there. I am in Double Bay 24/7,” Perry said.

Double Bay seems like the place to be after Melbourne businessman Paul Fridman recently purchased Double Bay’s InterContinental Hotel, with the intention to convert it into luxury apartments.

The Fortis group has bought six sites in the area for major residential developments including the Piper project in Piper Point being developed with former rag trader Danny Avidan.

Last September, developer Top Spring Australia bought the Double Bay Plaza retail site for $94 million. The property at 19-27 Cross St will be transformed into a luxury apartment and retail precinct.

The Eastern suburbs is a hive of action with JDH Capital, the group behind the redevelopment of Sydney’s Sirius building, purchasing the Vibe Hotel in Rushcutters Bay for about $125 million.
