Crown Resorts advertises for gaming staff ahead of licence grant

As Crown Resorts prepares its Sydney casino for trade at Barangaroo, it is now advertising for gaming table staff.

It is expected the state government will sign off on a conditional licence shortly, with the NSW cabinet to consider an agreement between the NSW gaming regulator and Crown as early as Monday.

Operation of the casino will be under strict guidelines, with the proposed licence set to run for an initial two-year period.

The timeframe also works for potential acquirer Blackstone, which is currently doing its due diligence.

A Crown spokeswoman said they continue “to work closely with [the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority] and welcomes any decision allowing gaming to commence in Sydney. We will provide an update when appropriate.”

The casino licence was suspended in 2020 after an Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority inquiry found Crown unfit to operate, saying the operator needed a management overhaul to trade.

The inquiry also called on NSW to establish the Independent Casino Commission, a “dedicated, stand-alone, specialist casino regulator with the necessary framework to meet the extant and emerging risks for gaming and casinos”.

Crown Resorts posted job advertisements for its gaming team, including for a general manager, on Friday, in a sign that it will be operational shortly.
