Police officer under investigation after violent pub incident

Confronting video has emerged of a South Australian police officer allegedly pushing and dragging an Eastern suburb pub patron.

An investigation is now being held into the incident.

A police officer who was filmed allegedly pushing and dragging a patron outside a hotel in the eastern suburbs will be investigated by SAPOL’s ethics branch

7News obtained the video which shows a uniformed officer appearing to push the patron which resulted in him falling onto his back on the adjacent road near the Maid Hotel in Stepney.

Shortly after, the footage shows an altercation among a small group of people where it appears the officer is dragging the man into the gutter.

According to a police spokesman, the matter had been referred to the ethical professional standards branch “for assessment”.

The incident happened after police were called at about 9.50pm to the hotel on Magill Rd when staff needed assistance with a group of around 20 people causing a disturbance.

It’s alleged one person had thrown a jug at staff.

A Fairview Park man was arrested and charged with failing to cease loiter and disorderly behaviour.

A barring order was issued, and he has been bailed to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court at a later date.
