Restaurants close down as Brisbane’s Eagle St Pier gets set for $2BN redevelopment

Demolition is about to start on Eagle Street Pier’s white buildings, making way for a $2 billion redevelopment to be undertaken by Dexus.

Restaurants at the Brisbane waterfront location, including Fatcow Steak & Lobster, Naga Thai, Coppa Spuntino, Rico Bar & Dining and Mr & Mrs G Riverbar will close their doors this weekend.

Redevelopment plans include two office towers, dining, retail, public plazas and an upgraded riverwalk.

Chris Higgins, co-owner of Mr and Mrs G Riverbar said he had no regrets about closing the restaurant after only a short time at the location, saying he had known about the redevelopment for 18 months.

But we did believe even back then — we still believed six months ago — we might even get a couple more years or at least one more year yet before they'd start," he said.

There is an appeal currently underway in the planning court over objections from neighbouring tower and apartment owners over the scale and bulk of the project.

According to Dexus, a demolition and construction start date are yet to be confirmed and a court decision as pending.

The first tower is slated to be completed in 2027.
