Winners are grinners

Two popular NSW Government campaigns won three major awards last night, NSW Minister for Primary Industries Katrina Hodgkinson said.

Ms Hodgkinson said the 8700kJ campaign took out the top gong for the Public Relations Institute of Australia’s (PRIA) NSW Awards for Excellence.

“The 8700kJ campaign was also awarded the best new mobile application in the nutrition category of the Australian Mobile Awards.

“This is positive achievement and shows the NSW Government is on the right track engaging target audiences through digital platforms,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

“The 8700kJ app, which encourages people to make better and healthier choices about what they eat, is a great free tool for consumers.

“While the popular ‘Good Glen and the Bad Eggs’ mobile app, designed to promote awareness about the safe handling of eggs and avoiding food poisoning, won the Australian Mobile Awards, Games – Education and Family category.

“This is fantastic news and I extend my congratulations to those who worked on these successful campaigns.

“The NSW Government made the inclusion of kilojoule content mandatory on the menu boards of larger fast food restaurants in February to tackle the serious issue of obesity,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

Almost 53 per cent of the NSW population being classified as overweight or obese (60 per cent of men and 45 per cent of women are overweight obese).

“The NSW Government is putting information in the hands of consumers when they need it. I encourage everyone to download the 8700kJ app or learn more about this great campaign if you haven’t already,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

The 8700kJ app has also been named the top free iPad app in the Health and Fitness category for iTunes and featured on CNet as ‘App of the Day’ earlier this year.
