Accor and Keylin part ways over Movenpick construction issues

Hotel provider Accor and residential developer Keylin have gone their separate ways after construction challenges meant they weren’t able to finalise certain aspects of their cojoined Brisbane project in the past six months.

Keylin’s luxury art-deco styled apartment tower “Oria” in Brisbane’s Spring Hill was to be complemented by the city’s first Accor run Movenpick Hotel.

The hotel was to have spectacular views over Victoria Park.

However, construction challenges including the design for a shared pool deck, gym and carpark facilities, proved problematic due to the current challenges facing the construction industry.

Louis Cheung, managing director of Keylin said the project needed to be simplified as there was a shortage of builders, subcontractors and specialty engineers.

“Six months ago, we had a choice to put the project on hold, refund the customers,” he said.

“Or we manoeuvre around it, pivot, and do what we need to make the changes and deliver the project.”

All demolition, ground and basement work is already complete. Keylin will tender for a builder in the coming months for the apartment portion.

Kelyin and Accor will still partner to deliver the first Movenpick in the River City. They are looking for a site within 2km of the original location.

Oria is set to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2024.
