Early end for Eat, Play, Cash back program after strong uptake

The Victorian government’s dining and entertainment scheme will end early as the uptake has exceeded expectations.

There is now just a short time left to make a claim for the Eat, Play, Cash back program, which was designed to put the life back into hospitality as the sector recovers post pandemic.

The Andrews government opened the $25 million scheme on 19 September: $19 million in claims have already been made.

The scheme, which was anticipated to run into summer, will now close within weeks, if not days giving Victorians just a short amount of time to make their 25% of the bill claims.

Customers must spend a minimum of $40, with reimbursement capped at $125.

“It’s no surprise Victorians have been taking full advantage of more affordable dining and entertainment experiences, while showing community spirit in supporting their hard-working local businesses,” Industry Recovery and Support Minister Ben Carroll said.

“This program is helping to support jobs, build business and consumer confidence and contribute to our state’s continued economic recovery.”

Notably, 80 per cent of all claims so far spent have been made for restaurants, pubs, cafes and winery experiences.

Luna Park and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child have also been winners.

Almost 65% of participants in the scheme, cited the scheme as the reason for their participation.

Eligible purchases can be lodged on the Service Victoria app until the $25 million allocation is exhausted.
