Man charged after callous one punch attack outside Gold Coast restaurant

A brutal one punch attack outside one of the Gold Coast’s busiest restaurants has left a teenager in hospital, fighting for life.

Police allege a 19-year-old man was walking through the carpark of the Burleigh Heads restaurant Justin Lane, shortly after 8pm on Saturday, when an argument occurred with a 28-year-old man.

The men did not know each other.

According to police, the teenager fell and hit his head on the pavement after being punched in the head by the attacker.

The alleged attacker fled the scene.

Paramedics as well as the High Acuity Response Unit arrived on scene. The victim was then rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with head injuries and in a life-threatening condition.

The man was caught by police in the nearby vicinity.

He was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and drunk or disorderly conduct on premises.

He was due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday and has been denied bail.
