Terzini unveils new design for Bondi Icebergs after public objections

Public outcry over the planned $1.3 million revamp of Bondi’s Icebergs Dining Room and Bar has forced changes to the design to alleviate fears it would disrupt the neighbourhood with loud music.

The owners of the iconic beachside venue have unveiled the latest design plans that include a refreshed outdoor terrace, expanded kitchen with a new charcoal oven and upgraded public areas.

A bar is included in the plans to enclose the terrace, with its opening hours extended until 10pm for 60 patrons who will be able to enjoy “background music”.

The restaurant's capacity will remain unchanged at 250 people.

The plans also outlined changes to the facade “to reduce the overall bulk of the building into neighbouring Notts Ave”.

“This will present a refined appearance to Notts Avenue, with no discernible changes to the appearance from the water,” the proposal stated.

Icebergs owner Maurice Terzini said they had listened to objections from the Wentworth Courier and the community over the initial design and made the appropriate changes.

“We had a few objections, but that’s always to be expected” Terzini told The Daily Telegraph.

“We’ve always been a very community-focused restaurant.”

The venue has been closed since May but is slated to reopen in November.

“Serving people again; I think that’s the most important thing that we’re really looking forward to,” Terzini said.
