Queensland casino pleads guilty to breaching casino act

The operator of one of Queensland’s four casinos faced court recently and plead guilty to breaching the state's Casino Control Act.

Operator of the Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns, Reef Corporate Services Ltd, which manages the Reef casino Trust was charged with one count of contravening a restriction on casino licensees.

The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) found that Reef had agreed to provide services in return for an interest in or share of money gambled at the casino.

Unfortunately for Reef, licensees are prohibited from entering into these types of agreements without ministerial approval – that is approval from the Minister for Liquor and Gaming.

The maximum penalty for the offence is $5,750.

Neither party would comment about the hearing and the case will return to court for a sentencing hearing in December.
