Historic Parramatta restaurant closes its doors for good

The Lachlan’s Restaurant at Old Government House, Parramatta has shut its doors.

The sudden move left customers scrambling to get their money back for booked functions.

The restaurant which sat on the heritage-listed grounds of Old Government House, closed its doors in October.

The owners failed to notify customers and left one business scrambling for a new Christmas party venue after it laid down a $1000 deposit.

A formal statement from the restaurant is yet to be released, however the restaurant is listed as “permanently closed”.

Lachlan’s, which was shut down during the 2020 lockdown, was contacted for comment.

“It was a super viable restaurant for many years,’’ Business Western Sydney executive director David Borger said.

“There’s two issues — first, there’s the loss of a western Sydney institution that was a great way to experience one of the oldest heritage buildings in Australia and, secondly, consumer affair issues.”

Cheryl Bates who is the National Trust of Australia NSW’s Parramatta branch president said the restaurant is a loss to the UNESCO-listed Parramatta Park.
