Newcastle’s Finnegan’s hotel at the centre of drink spiking allegation

A 22-year-old woman has spoken out after allegedly having her drink spiked for a second time at a NSW nightclub.

Demi Parkinson was at Newcastle's Finnegan's Hotel on Friday night for an end-of-year celebration with her friends when she says she started talking to a group of men.

One of the men offered her a drink.

"They were really nice at the time, I didn't think anything of it", Parkinson said.

"Unfortunately, I took the drink."

Not long after drinking it, her friends noticed her slipping in and out of consciousness whilst being surrounded by the men.

The men then allegedly dragged her out of the pub before her friends intervened.

"It could've ended a lot worse if my friends weren't there," Parkinson said.

At around 2:30am on Saturday, paramedics arrived and treated Parkinson for a possible spiking, then took her to the Calvary Mater Hospital.

When she woke up a few hours later she had no idea what had happened.

Parkinson says she'd had her drink spiked at the venue another time earlier this year.

"I was also spiked in May and was convulsing," she told 9News.

While Parkinson was blacked out, her friend, Sarah Williams, tried to seek help and approached the hotel's security staff.

One of the guards allegedly became aggressive with Williams.

A statement released by Finnegan's Hotel on Facebook said it would investigate the incident and that patron safety was paramount.

The security contractor accused of aggression has been stood down during the investigation.

Newcastle Police say they're aware of the matter.

Inquiries continue.
