Village Roadshow proposes Movie World hotel

Movie World on the Gold Coast is set to follow on the footsteps of other major theme parkls such as Disneyland after proposing a $300 million on-site hotel.

The proposal put forward by Village Roadshow Theme Parks is now officially open for public consultation, with Gold Coast residents encouraged to have their say.

The Oxenford site would see a 22-storey hotel constructed, featuring 600 rooms, a bar, restaurants, infinity pool, sky deck and function centre.

A decision is expected to be made later in 2023.

“It is a fact that the application will be carefully considered against the current City Plan; it will come before Council later in the year for a decision,” Councillor William Owen-Jones said.

“Hotel accommodation is an expected outcome for the “Major Tourism” zone (this application will supersede an existing approval for a hotel on site).

“Issues such as traffic, visual amenity, parking, hours of operation will all form part of the town planning officer’s assessment”.

If the proposal is accepted, it is expected to create around jobs during construction and 400 full time positions in the first five years of operation.

Village Roadshow estimates it would inject $840 million into the economy.

Consultation will close on 13 March.
