Esports and fantasy themed restaurant and bar set to open in Sydney

Sydney will be home to a new entertainment complex featuring a fantasy-themed tavern, elevated sci-fi bar and Esports arena.

The multimillion-dollar gaming and entertainment venue will open this weekend at Central Park Mall in Sydney.

Known as Fortress Sydney, it will be launched three years after Fortress Melbourne became the go-to destination for gamers and e-sports enthusiasts.

Fortress Sydney will be able to host 1000 people throughout the week and will be licenced until 2am on weekends.

“You don’t have to be a gamer to appreciate what we’ve done, because we’ve blended the worlds of gaming, entertainment and dining,” CEO and co-founder Jon Satterley said.

While the Melbourne venue only has one dining venue, Sydneysiders can enjoy a meal at two venues including The Tavern, a Dungeons and Dragons-like fantasy themed restaurant that serves large portions of pub classics.

The second is the sci-fi themed bar 2315.

“We want 2315 to be the best bar in Sydney. Not the best gamer bar,” Satterley said. ‘We’ve raised the bar on experiences. It’s not your average watering hole.”

The opening of Fortress Sydney follows the growing appetite for gaming and esports, which will be added to the schedule at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

The NSW 24 Economy Commissioner Mike Rodrigues said “It’s an emerging area that’s highly technology driven and amplified by an audience that want things that aren’t pub rock,” he said.

“[Venues like Fortress] gives homes to these communities which ultimately make for a vibrant city.”
