Three Blue Ducks owners move into ready-made supermarket meals

The owners of Three Blue Ducks are moving into the ready-made supermarket meal space.

The trio have transformed four hearty, organic restaurant dishes into a range of ready-made, microwaveable meals.

Ducks co-founder Mark LaBrooy said that they made the move because there wasn’t much quality in ready-made meals.

“When we were doing research to see what else was out there, it was just terrible,” he told Good Food.

“They were really low in protein, no one was using free-range chicken, and there were so many cheap and nasty ingredients.

“[It seems] when people try to make a ready-made meal, they’re just trying to put something together for the lowest possible price.”

Customers can expect Three Blue Duck dishes including chicken tikka masala, Sri Lankan chicken curry, mixed grain dahl and cauliflower korma.

Owners LaBrooy, MasterChef judge Andy Allen and Darren Robertson have been working on the project since the pandemic closed down their restaurant and are intent on keeping the integrity of the dishes.

“We wanted to make something we’d be proud of, something we’d actually want to eat,” LaBrooy said.

“But it was quite hard because it was like two worlds colliding … the manufacturing world and the restaurant world don’t often see eye to eye.”

All meals will represent fresh produce, rather than dehydrated ingredients and will be sold in individual servings, using eco-friendly, recyclable packaging.

The meals start at $14 per serve and will be available at Woolworths Metro in NSW and Victoria, and at QE Food Stores in NSW.

The trio is also developing a range of rubs, seasonings and sauces.
