A popular Bondi Cantonese eatery has copped more than $5000 in fines for conducting unsafe food practices.

Zilver received five separate fines after Waverley council inspected the venue on August 18.
The Bondi Junction restaurant’s biggest fine was for $1540 for handling food in an “unsafe” manner.

Zilver, which has been operating for over 30 years, was also fined for failing to maintain the premises to the required standard of cleanliness, failing to maintain the premises in working order, failing to ensure staff handling the food had skills and knowledge in food safety and food hygiene matters, and failing to take all necessary steps to prevent the likelihood of food being contaminated.

Owners Henry and Chillie Tang took over the business from Mr Tang’s father in the 2000s.
Its flagship Haymarket venue closed this year due to building redevelopment. The Zilver Group also owns a Haymarket eatery called The Eight.
