A pub brawl has ended in two men being charged with murder.

A 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Gympie, had their charges upgraded from grievous bodily harm to murder on Monday.

The pair are accused of punching a man and assaulting him while he was on the ground.

The 41-year-old victim died early on Sunday from serious head injuries obtained outside the Queenslander Hotel on Mary St in Gympie.
“Around 2am yesterday morning November 19, members of the public rendered first aid to the man after it is alleged he was punched and fell hitting his head on the roadway,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.

“It is alleged the man continued to be assaulted while he was on the ground.

“The 41-year-old man from Lagoon Pocket was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but has today passed away from his injuries.”

Police are calling for witnesses to the incident.
