Sofitel Sydney Wentworth to start $60 million transformation

The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth is to undergo a $60-million transformation starting next month.

Plans include an extensive refurbishment “to enhance the hotel’s offering for its guests”.

It will retain its distinctive heritage and is expected to be completed by Spring 2024.

Guest rooms will be comprehensively redesigned, along with suites, corridors, the club lounge and lobby areas.

The hotel will also feature restaurants and bars.

It has a long history and storied history. Opening in 1966 in Sydney’s financial district, it has played host to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as well as King Charles (then Prince) and Lady Diana, Princess during their Royal tour of Australia.

Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Bill Gates, Audrey Hepburn, Marlon Brando, Sophia Loren, Margaret Thatcher, George H.W. Bush, Vladimir Putin [Russia] and Hu Jintao have all stayed there.

The Liberal Party has also hosted several state and federal election night events.

With a history spanning more than half a century, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth in the city’s financial district has been a feature of Sydney’s urban landscape since it opened as the Wentworth Hotel in December 1966.

The hotel has been owned and operated by Qantas, Sheraton, Rydges and the Sofitel since 2004.
