Twenty-eight pubs and clubs in NSW will go cashless in a Minns government gaming trial.

The venues have joined the trial which has been expanded to include 4500 poker machines – 4000 more than originally planned. It will span across 24 metropolitan and regional local government areas.

The government was inundated with venues wanting to take part and it was left with little choice but to expand the project.

The state’s second-biggest gaming club West HQ, which operates more than 700 poker machines, has joined the trial. Other venues include Cabra-Vale Diggers, Dooleys Catholic Club and Twin Towns Services Club – which between them have almost 1500 machines. The Albion Hotel in Parramatta, the Crows Nest Hotel and the Broken Hill Musicians Club are also on board.
Gaming and Racing Minister David Harris said the industry was behind the trial.

Wests City, Newcastle, and Club York in the Sydney CBD have already taken part.

Five technology partners may also take part in the trial subject to cybersecurity requirements.

All participants must meet minimum requirements for harm minimisation protections, anti-money-laundering protections, data security and privacy protections.

Chair of the independent panel Michael Foggo said, “This demonstrates the depth of genuine support this trial has in the industry and its commitment to addressing gambling harm and money laundering.”

A 16-person panel is overseeing the trial, which includes ClubsNSW and the Australian Hotels Association, the Gaming Technologies Association and Wesley Mission.
