Opera Bar launches Matt Moran pop-up restaurant with indulgent set menu

Matt Moran is set to open a second celebrity-attracting outpost of his popular restaurant Chiswick.

The chef’s restaurant will now pop up at Opera Bar, where Moran and Executive Chef Fernando Sanchez are itching to introduce a pre-theatre menu to the Harbourside venue.

Chiswick will be located within the Raw Bar space and will feature indoor seating for 26 guests. It will boast a table service experience – a departure from the self-service style of the main Opera Bar.

For $80 per person, the set menu kicks off with a complimentary glass of Chandon Rose upon arrival, followed by a selection of shared appetizers.

These include Sonoma sourdough bread with tomato butter, Barra-masalata (a cured fish spread), vegetable chips, beef tartare with pickled king brown mushrooms and crisps.

For the main course, diners have a choice between pan-roasted snapper with fennel and sauce gribiche, or roast chicken with braised brassicas and Jerusalem artichoke.

“Bringing the planted-to-plated magic of Chiswick to Opera Bar under the sails of the Sydney Opera House is something a little different and fun we wanted to create for theatregoers,” said Moran.

“We’ve curated a menu that highlights many of Chiswick’s most popular dishes to enjoy with table service right here in one of the best locations in the city.”

Chiswick has been open since 2012 and is a staple on Sydney’s dining scene. It has attracted celebrities like Rita Ora and Taika Waititi.

The Chiswick pop up will be open from August 5-29 from 5pm, Mondays to Thursdays to complement Opera House show times.
