Relocating Australia’s biggest fish market is no mean feat, however, after eight years and a $750 million spend, the iconic Sydney Fish Market has announced a list of vendors for the new site.

The NSW government greenlit the relocation in 2016, but it wasn’t until 2020 that the go-ahead was given for the relocation and upgrade.

Sydney Fish Market 2.0 is designed by renowned Danish architecture firm 3XN and is expected to attract six million people every year – that’s great news for the new vendors.

The site will open in 2025 and according to the NSW Government, almost all retail spaces have been filled.

Big names such as Luke Nguyen and Trippas White are set to open venues thanks to $600 million in contracts that have just been awarded to local suppliers. Nguyen will open a flagship Southeast Asian restaurant, while Trippas White (the group behind Bar 83, Me Gal and Centennial Homestead) will launch a new casual eatery with lobster rolls.

Also on the list are Malaysian favourite Ho Jiak, gelato gem Cow and the Moon, Nanjing Dumplings and Inner West brunch institution Dirty Red.

Fish market favourites Claudio’s Seafood, Getfish, and Christies Seafood will also be back.

The revitalisation of Blackwattle Bay is set to be a cornerstone of Sydney's urban transformation. The centerpiece of this project is the redesigned Sydney Fish Market, which will be complemented by 300 new residences, a variety of retail outlets, and 6000 square meters of public green space, including cycling paths and a waterfront park.

The revamped area will integrate with a new 15-kilometre waterfront boardwalk, stretching from Woolloomooloo to Rozelle Bay. This pedestrian-friendly pathway will offer stunning harbor views and create a vibrant waterfront destination. With the completion of these projects, residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy leisurely walks, delicious sushi, and breathtaking scenery in 2025.
