Family-owned restaurant franchise Pekish has been placed into liquidation, with one restaurant owing $239,000 in superannuation.

The business has eateries in Geelong and Melbourne and operated under the company name Coastal Food Group.

Yarraville man David Wertiechowski is its sole director.

Pekish has gone into liquidation owing money to its employees, as well as goods and services to others.

ASIC documents reveal that Pekish at the City of Geelong Bowls Club in North Geelong owed $239,000 in superannuation and $95,000 to the tax office. The City of Geelong Bowls Club also had a $50,000 debt to the restaurant.

Meanwhile, Pekish at Williamstown, operating under Da Fine Food Group Pty Ltd and running a location at a Newport club, had no outstanding payments to employees but owed $257,000 to the tax office.

The Queenscliff restaurant, located within the Vue Grand, ceased operations in 2020 due to the pandemic, while the Altona location, housed at Kooringal Golf Club, closed in November 2021 when its five-year contract with the club expired.

Last week, Scott Andersen of Worrells was appointed liquidator for the Geelong and Williamstown businesses.

The North Geelong restaurant was located inside the bowls club and was first registered in May 2018.
