The 23rdOfficial Great Aussie Pie Competition was held in Melbourne Food Show at Melbourne Exhibition Centre

Over four days, Australia’s finest pie makers battled it out to see who would victorious in eight categories.

And the winners are;

Winner of Plain Pie Competition - Mooroopna Bakery, Mooroopna, VIC.

Runner Up of Plain Pie Competition - Top of the Ridge Bakery, Berowra, NSW

Winner of Gourmet Competition - Brighton Bakery, Scarborough, WA.

Winners of Gourmet Categories:

  • Red Meat - Angkor Bakery, Burton SA (Curry Beef)
  • Poultry - Village Bakery Café, Dubbo NSW (Chicken and Mushroom)
  • Seafood - Wickedly Delicious Patisserie, Monbulk Vic (Seafood Deluxe)
  • Game - Village Bakery Café, Dubbo NSW (Kangaroo Port and Cranberry)
  • Vegetarian - Brighton Bakery, Scarborough, WA (Spinach and Ricotta)
  • Apple Pie - Denmark Bakery, Denmark WA (Apple Pie)
  • Gluten Free - Cocky Chef Bakehouse, Dee Why NSW, GF Chicken Leek and Tarragon)

With over 1500 entries, it was a 38% increase on last year, a testament to such a wonderful and highly regarded competition within the baking industry.

The annual Competition is open to all pie making professionals and attracts thousands of entries from Australian bakers each year. As the original and largest nationally recognised competition for pie making in Australia, it is highly regarded by the baking industry and represents the pinnacle in pie making excellence.

Of course, awards at the competition are highly contested and as such, entries remain at a very high standard each year with pie making professionals all vying to achieve the much coveted overall prizes.

Also this year, the humble pie has gone high tech, with the competition boasting its very own app. Available on both android and apple, the app will list all winners across all categories so that pie aficionados and travellers alike will be able to use it to find their closest winning pie business and see what pies won which award.

For 23 years, the Competition has served to promote and celebrate our much-loved icon; the humble pie. This year’s high caliber of entries and amazing winners have certainly continued this – building on the quality, innovation and prestige of this most highly regarded competition and bringing with them a whole new level of pie excellence in the process.
