Get Prepared for Storm Season with a Free Webinar

The Newman Government is helping to prepare Queensland businesses for the unexpected with a free storm season webinar. Tourism Minister, the Hon. Jann Stuckey, has encouraged business owners and operators to register for a free webinar to help them develop a business continuity plan.

“As Queenslanders, we all saw the sudden and devastating impact that unexpected weather events had on businesses during the 2010-11 summer season,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Queensland is once again approaching storm season and to help businesses prepare, the State Government is offering a free one-hour webinar to outline how businesses can best prepare for storms and other potential crises.

“We understand owners and operators can’t afford time away from their business which is why we’re offering a webinar.”

Ms Stuckey said participants will learn how to develop a business continuity plan to identify risks associated with different disasters, assess the impacts on their business, and develop an action plan to help mitigate risks that could interrupt business operations.

“We have all seen the effects power outages can have on a business, but there are other things to consider and plan for such as damage and loss of stock, staff members not being able to access their place of work and supplier or contractor disruptions,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Business continuity is about being prepared to manage any disruption to your business. It helps a business to anticipate, prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from disruptions.

“Businesses that complete the webinar will be better equipped to respond to crises and disaster events, and will also gain an understanding of business continuity strategies and the importance of developing a plan for their business.”

The Preparing your Business for Storm Season webinar will be held on Wednesday 28 November from 12:30-1:30pm.
