THA Hospitality scholarship recipients announced

As part of the Tasmanian Hospitality Industry Workforce Development Program, the Tasmanian Hospitality Association (THA) has announced the first ever winners of the Hospitality Scholarships through Beacon Foundation Schools.

The scholarships aim to provide students who are passionate about pursuing a career in hospitality the chance to achieve their goals. Students were nominated by their teachers based on their commitment to achieving their career goals. Each winner will receive a $500 bursary to assist the transition from high school to secondary school as well as the opportunity to undertake a school based traineeship with a hospitality venue.

The scholarship winners are:
Jarna Barton: Geilston Bay High School
Jessica Fullbrook: Queechy High School
Anthony McIntosh: Queechy High School
Desirae Anne Woolley: Huonville High School

General Manager of the THA Steve Old said “These scholarships will assist students to overcome barriers to furthering their education whilst working toward their career goals”

“Students can commence the appropriate training pathway as part of their college studies” said Mr Old. “This program also benefits our industry by recognising rising stars early on and giving industry the opportunity to develop those individuals”.

Twelve students were nominated across six Beacon Foundation schools for the inaugural scholarships.

“The standard of nominations were outstanding and we are excited about the future of our industry when we see students of this standard seeking careers in our industry” Mr Old said

“These scholarships are a great way to showcase our industry to those up and coming students who dream of working in hospitality” Mr Old said

“The hospitality industry has suffered from a poor reputation for careers in the past and these scholarships are just one way we hope to change that perception” Mr Old said

“The THA is passionate about providing opportunities to those that need it to obtain a sustainable and fulfilling career within the industry” Mr Old said

“This scholarship program is just one initiative in our Hospitality Strategic Plan to attract high quality individuals to work in the hospitality industry within Tasmania” Mr Old said
