Liberal Restaurant policy good for community and industry

Premier Colin Barnett's announcement today that all restaurants in WA will be able to serve liquor without a meal, provides clarity to patrons and the hospitality industry.

AHA(WA) CEO Mr Bradley Woods said the policy announced today supports the vibrant restaurant scene the community is seeking.

"The policy eliminates unnecessary red tape for restaurants wishing to offer a drink without a meal and removes the requirement for a special permit.

"The policy ensures that diners must be seated at a table while drinking in a restaurant, which is an important distinction between restaurants and bars, hotels and taverns and provides clarity to local government, the public and hospitality businesses," said Mr Woods.

Also announced today is the removal of it being an offence to carry a drink in a pub or bar from the inside to an outdoor alfresco area.
