Roo meat trade to Russia resuming

A South Australian kangaroo meat processor has exported its first products to Russia since a trade ban was lifted.

The Russian quarantine authority partially lifted a four-year imports ban last December.

Nine other Australian suppliers are still waiting to resume their trade.

Macro Meats manager Ray Borda said he was waiting to find out if the quality and health standards had been met.

He said, assuming they were, more meat would be exported, leading to the hiring of more workers in South Australia.

"The regulations and the guidelines are five times what they were ... and once that does get through, more than likely the rest of the industry will be opened up," he said.
