Central Qld hotel avoids flood devastation

The owners of the Jambin Hotel, near Biloela in central Queensland, say their business narrowly escaped major damage when the Callide Creek reached peak flood levels late last night.

At Goovigen, moderate flood levels are receding after heavy rain on Saturday upstream in Grevillea Creek.

The weather bureau says the Dawson River is also rising and there could be some minor flooding downstream from Taroom this week.

Jambin Hotel owner Peter Wilkie says flooding has only reached the car park of his establishment but anxiety is running high.

"The town folk they ... get a little bit panicky and the long trips to school and trips with their horses, everybody is ... getting to the end of their tether," he said.

"We haven't traded now for over a month.

"Had a yarn yesterday, wish we just left everything up a month ago and shut up and stayed at home."
