Women in hospitality industry boosted on far south coast

New statistics have revealed the percentage of women working in Clubs on the New South Wales far south coast is higher than the state average.

Clubs New South Wales says fifty-four per cent of employees at establishments on the far south coast are women, compared to the state average of almost forty-six per cent.

The far south coast representative on the organisation's Regional Council, Toni Mitchell, says women who have young families find the flexibility of working in the hospitality sector appealing.

She says the trends are positive.

"I think the reasons are really that clubs have flexible working conditions that are favourable to families that allow casual positions working around their partner's full time positions,” Ms Mitchell said.

“Clubs go out of their way to make sure that working mothers are very comfortable.

“In some instances, Clubs are actually offering generous maternity leave programs as well as breast feeding areas for staff," she said.

Ms Mitchell says hospitality is an industry that gives flexibility to young families.

"I think at the end of the day, families need to have two people working to be able to make ends meet,” she said.

“We need to be able to make sure that children are looked after by one partner or the other.

“If they can work around a time when their partner's actually looking after the children, that's got to be a benefit for them."
