Launch of anti-discrimination guidelines for hotel and accommodation industry

Updated anti-discrimination guidelines aimed at assisting the hotel and accommodation industry was launched last week at AHA NSW headquarters in Sydney by State Tourism, Major Events and Hospitality Minister George Souris.

AHA NSW, TAA (NSW) and the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW have been joined by the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing to launch the revised guidelines – which for the first time are in a USB/digital format.

AHA NSW CEO Paul Nicolaou said the "Anti-Discrimination Guidelines for the Hotel and Accommodation Industry" was the most comprehensive resource of its kind available.

"The hotel industry employs more than 75,000 people and we want to do everything we can to ensure our staff and patrons enjoy their right to a discrimination and harassment-free environment," Mr Nicolaou said.

"The AHA NSW and TAA (NSW) legal team has been working closely with the Anti-Discrimination Board, in conjunction with OLGR, to revise and update a set of clear guidelines that will assist our members in eliminating discrimination in their venues.

"Our aim is to provide the best resource possible for all our members to utilise on this important issue. It's particularly pleasing to see the new USB/digital format available to members for the first time."

Mr Nicolaou said it was the first time OLGR had been involved in the process.

"We thank the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW and OLGR for working with us to update this great resource," Mr Nicolaou said.
