Food-wine festival focus turns to regional SA

Events will be held across regional South Australia this weekend as part of the Adelaide Food and Wine Festival.

Areas including Coonawarra, McLaren Vale, the Barossa and the Riverland will showcase wine and produce, to coincide with the festival's last day on Sunday.

The diversity of the Riverland will be the focus of 'a Walk on the Wildside' at 919 Wines at Glossop, with organically grown, alternative wines and Indigenous foods on show.

Jenny Semmler from the winery says she is thrilled that the festival is celebrating regional wine and food.

"I think it's really important that people in Adelaide get to become familiar with where their food and wine comes from and the producers and the personalities behind them," she said.

She says she is impressed that the festival is recognising the diversity of produce outside Adelaide.

"The regions have all got their own distinct characteristics with what they produce and how they approach their production, so it's actually showcasing regions' food and wine, instead of keeping it all in Adelaide," she said.

Sips in the Sticks will be a held on Sunday at the historic Glenroy Shearing Shed at Coonawarra, featuring winemaking women from around the nation.
