Scaffidi's tweet-and-sour hospitality attack

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi says she will name and shame eateries that fail to offer good service after using social media to attack hospitality at a Perth cafe at the weekend.

Ms Scaffidi refused to name the business in her Twitter post when she attacked the poor service but said several restaurants had asked her if it was aimed at them.

Lisa Scaffidi plans to name and shame bad service

"The bad service malaise in Perth continues as people forget their boss is paying them to provide a service!" she wrote to her 4570 followers.

On Saturday, Ms Scaffidi also praised the service and coffee at a Mt Lawley cafe.

Her posts on wait times, poor service and substandard products have sparked online debate and prompted other patrons to share experiences.

Ms Scaffidi said yesterday Perth had a problem with customer service, particularly when asking for top dollar.

"I name and shame and I can get criticised for it but I see other people naming and shaming a lot and I do think we have nothing to fear but the fear itself," Ms Scaffidi said.

"The reality is Perth has got so much going for it at the present time. We have beautiful venues and we have a lot of choice now.

"But if we don't go to those venues and get a good experience we're probably going to be inclined to not go back.

"These businesses are needing to develop loyalty and the best way to develop loyalty is to develop a good service."

Australian Hotels Association of WA chief executive Bradley Woods said Ms Scaffidi was entitled to comment and businesses were now more aware of the instantaneous nature of Twitter and Facebook.

He said comments about businesses could help improve its customer service and businesses had to be aware of the nature of social media.
