Berri Club prepares to get back to business

The Berri Club could be trading as early as this week, once its liquor licence is reinstated.

A group of members has spent the past few months working to reopen the club after it went into voluntary administration in February.

A special meeting was held yesterday to form a new, nine-member board.

Board member Alan Ranford says he is hopeful the community will support the club when it reopens.

"We've got quite a few volunteer members," he said.

"We're getting them to do a responsible service of alcohol course, so we'll have volunteers in the kitchen and behind the bar.

"So that's cutting costs and trading properly and basically having the members have a sense that it's their club, they own it and what happens here is up to them."

Mr Ranford says he is hopeful the club's liquor licence will be reinstated within days.

"Last time we talked to liquor licensing they said they haven't heard from the administrators yet to reinstate it, so all they're doing is waiting for a letter from the administrators and they said it shouldn't be too much of a problem," he said.

"So hopefully, cross fingers, this week some time."
