Court orders partial demolition of Dimboola Hotel

The Dimboola Hotel will be partially demolished this year after the Hindmarsh Shire took its owner to court over incomplete safety works.

The hotel's owner, Paul Rintel, bought the site just months after fire gutted it 10 years ago.

Earlier this year, Mr Rintel was ordered by the Horsham Magistrates Court to undertake works in the interests of public safety, including the removal of unstable roof tiles and bracing walls.

Those works were meant to be completed in April but Mr Rintel failed to complete them in time and the shire took him to court again yesterday.

Mr Rintel told the court most of the works were now done but he had received advice that the interior walls could not be braced safely and that everything barring the facade should be demolished.

Magistrate John Lesser ordered him to proceed with the demolition and also comply with the previous court orders before returning to court in November.

Mr Rintel declined the ABC's request for comment.
