Marchetti's Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons shut by landlord

Crown Melbourne has closed the doors at Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons, where it is landlord.

A protracted dispute between the hotel and gaming empire and the tenant - chef Robert Marchetti and his backers - meant the restaurant did not open for business Thursday morning.

Marchetti, currently in Bali where he has ongoing consultancy business, says the situation is fluid and unresolved.

However, Crown says it is looking for a new tenant at the bravely designed trattoria on Crown’s prime Yarra-side promenade.

Crown F&B head honcho Peter Crinis is involved in ongoing negotiations with the Marchetti camp and was unavailable for comment this morning.

Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons was established by the then-partners Marchetti and Maurice Terzini. The name is a tribute to their fathers. The partnership split last year, with Marchetti pulling in some silent backers with considerable retail experience and resources.

Marchetti and his group recently sold the Neild Avenue restaurant, in Rushcutters Bay, to the Keystone Group.

UPDATE: Crown food and beverage boss Peter Crinis said Giuseppe, Arnaldo & Sons had been "a very successful Riverwalk restaurant".

"Although the Italian favourite will be missed as part of our premium dining precinct, Crown is certain this prime location will be home to an exciting concept in the near future,” he said.

Robert Marchetti told The Australian he and his business partners had simply decided not to renew the lease.
