Mark Best tipped to take the helm at The Woods

In demand: Chef and owner of Marque restaurant, Mark Best.

Twin-toque chef Mark Best is the short-priced favourite to take the helm early next year at the restaurant space currently occupied by The Woods, at the Four Seasons Hotel on George Street.

Best, owner-chef at Surry Hills fine diner Marque, is believed to be in a two-way race for the restaurant space with Melbourne chef Guy Grossi.

An executive team from the Four Seasons travelled to Australia this month, discussing future plans and dining at Best and Grossi’s establishments.

While an announcement isn’t expected until next month, Best is top of the Four Season’s shopping list. This would potentially be added to Best’s portfolio that includes Marque and Pei Modern in Melbourne.

The Woods’ current chef, Hamish Ingham, announced in October he would depart at the end of the year and Four Seasons began the hunt of a replacement “consultant chef”.
