ALH snaps up two Darwin pubs

THE Woolworths-backed ALH Group yesterday paid more than $10 million to buy two landmark Darwin pubs, further expanding its presence in the Northern Territory.

The vendor was South Australia's family-owned Barreau Hotel Group, which had offered the two taverns in an off-market deal.

The Barreau Group's Palmerston Tavern and Airport Tavern, both in suburban Darwin, will be added to ALH's portfolio of 320-plus pubs under the deal believed to have been negotiated by Ray White Hotels' managing director, Tony Bargwanna.

Both taverns feature significant gaming machines as well as bottle shops and TAB facilities.

ALH Group also controls more than 460 retail liquor outlets throughout Australia.
