Travel website Trivago.com.au today released its 2014 ranking of the best destinations and hotels, based on more than 120 million traveller ratings.

While Coles Bay, Cradle Mountain and Port Arthur were listed as destinations with the best online hotel reputations, Stanley in the state’s North-West outranked them all, coming second in Australia.

When it came to individual hotels, the upmarket East Coast getaway Saffire Freycinet was placed highest among Tasmania’s best accommodation performers, coming fourth in the nation.

The Islington Hotel in Hobart also made the grade, coming in at 20th on the national list.

Other Tasmanian hotels to make the national list were Kurrajong House and Trevallyn House in Launceston.
