KLEIN’S Coffee Bar & Grill is just one of several businesses on the Gold Coast that will be closed over the Easter long weekend thanks to sky high penalty rates.

Garry Klein said he closed the doors of the Hollywell business every public holiday because he could not afford to pay staff to sell food and drinks.

“I have to pay staff $45 an hour to make coffee, but I can only charge $3.70 for a cup of coffee,” he said.

“It just not viable, so the staff miss out because I can’t afford to stay open and give them hours.”
