ALH Group applies to extend trading to 3am in suburban Brisbane pubs

Southside pubs have applied for extended trading hours to 3am

SUBURBAN southside pubs could rival the closing hours of the city’s entertainment precinct clubs if an application for 3am trading is approved.

The ALH Group have applied to the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) to extend trading hours for Oxford 152, the Holland Park Hotel, Stones Corner Hotel, Belmont Tavern, the Australian National Hotel, Sunnybank Hotel and the Mt Gravatt Hotel to 3am, seven days a week.

On the bayside, The Capalaba Tavern has applied for the same trading hours.

The Wynnum Hotel already has a 3am liquor licence, according to OLGR.

The application comes as the Palaszczuk Government investigates a 1am lockout for pubs and clubs, no shots after midnight and a 3am closing time.

An OLGR spokeswoman said currently, the pubs’ closing times range from midnight to 2am.

ALH Group spokesman David Curry said the company did not comment on pending applications.

Brisbane City Councillor Shayne Sutton (Morningside ward) said 3am trading should be confined to the city.

“They should not be given approval to operate until 3am at any of their Brisbane pubs in residential areas,” she said.

“They shouldn’t be allowed to cause that disruption.”

Cr Steven Huang (Macgregor Ward) said the Sunnybank Hotel’s application met all the requirements put forward by OLGR.

She said unruly behaviour of patrons as they left suburban pubs had caused residents grief in the past.

Morningside Police Senior Sergeant Barry Bullion said officers performed regular checks of licenced premises to ensure they met liquor licensing laws.
