KISS rock band tipped to open restaurant in Melbourne

KISS frontman Gene Simmons

KISS are in talks to open a rock restaurant in Australia.

Bassist Gene Simmons is eyeing of Melbourne, one of the band’s biggest markets in the world, as the home for one of their Rock and Brews restaurants.

“That is in the works,’’ Simmons says. “We’re looking at that now.”

Rock and Brews serve “American comfort food” and craft beer at locations including Los Angeles airport, Mexico, Florida and California.

Merchandising guru Simmons is looking at expanding Rock and Brews into venues around the world.

Kiss’ love of Australia was consolidated with their first tour here in 1980.

“Molly Meldrum and his cowboy hat was our ambassador for Australia,” Paul Stanley says. “When we got there he was one of our guides. And let’s just say the ride was rock’. That first trip to Australia was a defining moment for Kiss. And I’ve always had a soft spot, and a not so soft spot for Australian women.”
