New outdoor smoking bans take effect from 6 July 2015
From 6 July 2015: Commercial outdoor dining areas will be smoke-free.
- This means smoking will be banned in any seated outdoor dining area of a restaurant, café or licensed venue while food is being served.
- If you break this law, you could receive a $300 fine on the spot.
- The business owner may also be penalised up to $5,500.
The four metre law will apply.
- This means that smoking within four metres of an entrance to or exit from a club, hotel, restaurant or café will be against the law.
- If you break this law, you could receive a $300 fine on the spot.
These bans protect you from harmful secondhand tobacco smoke from cigarettes, pipes and waterpipes.
