Hotel Eyre's got game

Hotel Eyre has once again been given the nod of approval at the hospitality industry's night of nights.

The hotel picked up best gaming venue in country South Australia at the Australian Hotel Association South Australian Hotel Industry Awards for Excellence last week.

Last year the venue was awarded best outdoor area in country South Australia for its Eyre Garden.

Manager Carl Church was unable to attend last year's awards event but was pleased to be able to receive this year's award on behalf of the Hotel Eyre in person.

The premier industry event at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre was hosted by Hamish McLachlan with entertainment by Anthony Callea and was attend by more than 800 people.

Mr Church said the Hotel Eyre was nominated for three awards which were overall very competitive this year.

He said this year's award win was reflective of the hotel striving to ensure its customer service, menu, and overall venue was at a high level.

"That's why we value feedback so we can continue to grow and provide the superior customer service that we strive for," Mr Church said.

The awards are judged by industry peers with the Hotel Eyre's recently renovated gaming room being noted for its modern yet inviting environment.

"The Eyre Hotel gaming room is constantly being updated," the judges said.

"The staff are trained in all aspects of responsible gaming and work closely with Gaming Care to ensure a pleasurable gaming experience.

"The renovated room incorporates the opulent looks of the 50s/60s, offers the latest gaming machines and a comfortable atmosphere."

Mr Church said staff had received positive feedback on the upgraded gaming lounge area which was opened in September last year.

Mr Church said people had commented they enjoyed the space and the opportunity to have a coffee from the full range of espresso coffee available and read the local newspaper or the national newspaper.

"You don't have to go into the pokie area, you can just enjoy a coffee and a chat in the lovely lounge area," he said.

Mr Church said he was also very pleased to be able to share in the award celebrations with local industry peers, the Sundowner Hotel Motel.

"I'm stoked for the Sundowner, it just goes to show that Whyalla can take on the best and bring home the gold so to speak," Mr Church said.
