The Hub restaurant and bar opens in Coogee

While enjoying a few schooners at the Clovelly Hotel three old friends joked how great it would be to open a restaurant in their home suburb of Coogee.

When the trio saw a prime property up for grabs, a stone’s throw away from Coogee Beach overlooking Coogee Oval, they took the opportunity to make their dream a reality.

James White, founder of wholesaling company, Two Providores, plumber and business owner Matt Scott and builder of three decades Brad Stevens all share a passion in the food industry.

So together they opened The Hub, at the former Sauce bar and grill, about three months ago.

The modern Australian menu has been created by Mr White, and The Hub’s head chef, Jiwan Prasainn and sous chef Stuart Webb.

Stevens said the team, along with general manager Mark Elyoughon, wanted to offer a menu with steaks, ribs and chicken as well as lighter share plates and seafood, and a kids menu, to accommodate families.

“Coogee has now become a hub of the eastern suburbs and we wanted to make a restaurant to reflect that, it’s a meeting point in the hub of the eastern suburbs,” Mr Stevens says.

“We’ve had people come in and ask to go into business with us — to open a Hub in Brisbane and LA. When you hear that you know you’re doing something right.”

On Tuesdays children eat free, and on Wednesday The Hub offers a two for one deal on share plates.

“It’s somewhere you can bring your kids to eat, and it’s a night spot as well,” Mr Stevens says.

“It’s not a disco or a pick up place just a nice restaurant and bar when you can have a meal plus a cocktail later. We wanted to offer good food and excellent service at a reasonable price.”
