Inside the $32,000 a night Australian hotel

A LUXURY hotel is opening its doors for the first time in Australia this week, but it isn’t your average stay.

It’s essentially a shipping container, decked out to the max. Known as The Spontaneity Suite, it will be popping up at various locations around Australia throughout the year and costs up to a staggering $32,000 a night.

The first stop is a secret hilltop location in the Yarra Valley, which will be available to the public from this Thursday although celebrity couple Tim Robards and Anna Heinrich have already had a sneak peek inside. The duo have since taken to Twitter to share photos of their “surreal” stay.

With features such as a rooftop terrace and jacuzzi, cocktail station, keyless entry, and floor-to-floor ceiling glass to maximise the views, it’s definitely designed to impress.

The suite can be booked via HotelTonight, which will cut the price to $99 for five nights between August 27-31. There will also be an auction-style sale on September 1 when the price will drop by $1000 from $32,000 every 10 minutes until it has been sold.

The price includes return limousine transfers, all meals and minibar items, a wine-tasting tour at the Tarrawarra Estate and a personal concierge available via a mobile app chat service. There’s also a customer service team that travels with it.

But perhaps the best thing about it is that the proceeds raised from each night’s stay will be donated to the charity OzHarvest.

HotelTonight Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Stefan Cordiner, said the brand came up with the idea of creating a roaming boutique-style gem to satisfy Australians’ sense of adventure for exploring their own backyard.

“The aim was to offer an intrepid yet comfortable experience to create the perfect night of escapism,” Mr Cordiner said. “We’re on a quest to make travelling more fun.”

The suite, which can compact in on itself, will pop up in a secret Sydney location next, before moving on to other locations. It’s valued between $20,000 and $50,000 per night, depending on the location and transport costs to reach it.

But it certainly has heated competition in the luxury stakes, going up against the likes of the super-luxurious qualia hotel in Hamilton Island, which is often voted the world’s best, and the famous Australia Suite at the Intercontinental Sydney, where celebrities such as Oprah, Jennifer Aniston and Mel Gibson have stayed — among others.
