Lismore's Winsome Hotel to host pop-up theatre restaurant

FANCY a bit of Shakespeare and Tony Abbott with your murder mystery dinner?

A one-off, pop-up theatre restaurant at Lismore's Winsome Hotel is set to mix sleuthing, political satire, and Shakespeare into a rambunctious night of chaotic hilarity.

The genre-bending event will raise money to fund accommodation to alleviate homelessness in the Lismore area.

It's the brainchild of long-time theatre dining aficionado and member of the Lismore Theatre Company Lisa Walmsley.

Ms Walmsley's event mixes the storyline of an Agatha Christie whodunit, Shakespearean characters, and a dose of poking fun at Australia's current political class.

An added twist is guests of the night get to be part of it - with one mystery character getting the plum role of Shakespeare's killer.

Dressing up is all but mandatory for those wanting to have a good night, Ms Walmsley said, with first in, best dressed.

"All of the guests and actors will be either Shakespearean characters or people from Shakespeare's life," Ms Walmsley said.

"If you book early you can choose your character from the list, if you book later I will assign you a character."

Guests will be given a description of their character plus two or three "clues" to be shared with their table which are then shared with the 80-seat capacity audience, Cleudo-style.

The satire portion of the night will involve local actors portraying some "mystery guests" (very well known public figures) with Ms Walmsley warning that "easy targets have been picked".

"It's going to be lots of fun intermingled with real themes of homelessness as well," she said.

"I would prefer to call it a blending of genres.

"As well as supporting an awesome cause, this is your chance to dress up, solve a murder, take part in political parody... and enjoy scrumptious food cooked by the lovely Sharon Dwyer of soup kitchen fame.

"I've worked really carefully to try to tie it all in together so it's relatively coherent."
