Gold Coast’s new $400m tower
Australia’s first Dorsett Hotel is being built on the Gold Coast.
It’s a $400m, 53-storey third tower and construction work has started at the Star Entertainment Group’s Broadbeach site.
The Dorsett will be the second biggest in visitor hub Broadbeach behind The Star Grand. It will feature not only 300 rooms but also 423, one and two-bedroom apartments.
Overall, it will take supply at the Star Gold Coast’s island site to 1400 rooms. And in addition, they are also planning new restaurants and bars for the third tower.
Star’s $2 billion masterplan foresees seven towers in total at the site. Part of that is the third tower and it is envisaged that building it will create 1800 construction jobs. A further 500 people will be employed once it is operational. That will boost Star Gold Coast workforce taking it from 2400 to 2900.
Also, the Gold Coast Bulletin has revealed plans for a further four towers, standing at 52, 54, 65 and 74 storeys. The timetable proposes one new tower every two years and each tower will have a “hero” pool plus food and beverage venues.
The Dorsett tower is being built five months after completion of the site’s second tower, holding The Darling, home to rooftop bar and restaurant 19. It is operated by Gold Coast hospitality dream team Simon Gloftis and Billy Cross.
The Star Entertainment Group chairman John O’Neill said the development promised a lot for the Gold Coast.
“This latest commitment showcases the confidence we have in the future of the Coast and its potential to become an even more established primary location for intrastate, interstate and international visitors,” Mr O’Neill told the Daily Telegraph.
“The Star Gold Coast has been transformed over the past three years, and continues to evolve, with levels of investment that position us as a genuine global tourism destination.
“When the Dorsett opens for business around early 2022, it will ensure we have two of the largest hotels on the Gold Coast — plus the most luxurious in The Darling suite hotel,” he said.
