Sydney restaurant owners cook up 103m pizza to raise funds for fire service

A Sydney restaurant has created a 103-meter long Margherita pizza to raise funds for those fighting the bushfires.

Pellegrini's Italian owners Pierre and Rosemary Moio decided to make "Australia's longest ever continuous pizza” and called on the public to come and buy a slice with the proceeds going to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.

They prepared the pizza by rolling out meter-long pieces of dough, sticking them together and topping it with tomato sauce and mozzarella before baking it in a conveyor oven.

The pizza was cut into 4000 slices to feed the 3000-plus crowd that turned up to the Kirrawee restaurant to donate.

"It may not have broken a world record, but it was an event that certainly helped make a difference in raising much needed funds," Pierre told CNN.

"The final count was 103 meters of continuous, unbroken crunchy Italian-style pizza."
