Shane Delia switches to home delivery with new platform Providoor
The Covid-19 shutdown has spurred Melbourne restaurateur Shane Delia to launch a new food delivery platform that aims to harness the talents of some of the nation’s best chefs.
The TV chef is launching his new food delivery platform Providoor on June 1, with a menu that features dishes from his own restaurant Maha, as well as Cumulus Inc, Supernormal, Sunda, MOVIDA, Flower Drum, Estelle, The Everleigh and Tipo 00.
Delia is also planning to include a second round of Melbourne restaurants, and a Sydney launch in July, describing the move as a “real game-changer”.
“I’ve got the biggest admiration for Sydney restaurants,” he told The Australian. “They’ve got their own flavour, own attitude.
“The novelty of sitting, thinking you could have one of Sydney’s best restaurants at home on a Friday night in Melbourne is pretty exciting, and on the other hand, people keep asking me, ‘when can we get Maha in Sydney?’.”
Customers can place their orders by 5pm for next-day delivery within a 35km radius of Melbourne’s CBD. The customers then complete a few basic steps to finish the dishes in their own kitchen to recreate a restaurant quality meal.
Delia said the concept was both cheaper for the consumer and the operator, saying there is no longer the need to set up “bricks and mortar” operations.
“We won’t dictate to our Providoor restaurants what they should offer, but we’ve told them to give the customers the romance of cooking, without the headache of cooking,” he said. “Do all the hard work and don’t have too many steps or containers of ingredients, but give them an opportunity to control the end product.”
